Some of the essays are articles on how a lady should behave and the problems the author saw in life. Some of the essays are reminiscences on the author's home or the homes of neighbors. In one essay, for example, the author looks at the dying of a fire in a home that was sold.I can easily imagine these essays as a newspaper column that may have run long ago. Overall I found it to be a fascinating read.

Amber's book could have been written yesterday. No wonder everyone loved her writings and were so thrilled when her writings were published.
Some info was good. Like how a lady should act if they want to be respected. But.... there was more than one page that i skipped through on my kindle..... at least half of the book. It is very short so it really isn't a book... I really like old books and memoirs, but this was unneccesarily wordy with flowery paragraph after paragraph.
